HCCL's main focus has always been to provide high quality cricket games, we focus on cricket and want to ensure everyone enjoys the game, however at the same time it is essential that we uphold the laws, guidelines and the spirit of the game.
One of the issues being faced is slow over rate, due to the shorter days, early morning dew & slow over rate the games are being delayed and we also had to shorten some games due to lack of time.
Before enforcing strict laws to tackle this problem we feel that if we bring attention to this and share some tips then we might be able to overcome this together.
So here are some tips that can help. Please comment and let us know any other tips that might help with this.
- At an average each over is supposed to be around 4 minutes, which means 40 mins for 10 overs and 80-85 mins for an innings. The captain should be looking at this constantly to ensure his team is close to the target.
- Try to decide fields and set them quickly, remember a 1 minute interruption made every over adds up.
- Batsmen should try to reduce the amount of times they ask for water, and when they do they should signal in advance so that the extra players can be ready with the water before the end of the over, the extras should run in as soon as the over ends in an effort to try and reduce the wasted time.
- The next batsman in line should be padded up and ready, when a player gets out they should start walking onto the ground and maybe try to cross the outgoing batsman around the 30 yard circle. The fielders should also quickly return to their positions and be ready for the next ball.
We have had good punctuality with teams coming on time and we have also enforced the penalties in the rare occurrences when they do come late. Although the over rate penalties have not been enforced yet. Some of the penalties being discussed are :-
- If team A only manages to bowl 18 overs in the allotted time then they will complete bowling their 20 but will only get to bat 18. Second bowling - every full over bowled after the allotted time incurs a 6 run penalty. This is mentioned in the rules but has not been strictly enforced yet.
- Yellow cards for captains
- Penalty for the whole team in the next game
etc etc
We are hoping that all teams can correct their over rates before we are forced to enforce such rules.
Additional rules
- Players without FULL whites will not be allowed to play.
- Yellow cards maybe handed for abuse or other unsportsmanlike behavior on the field
- Red cards may be handed out for serious offenses where the player will be removed from the game immediately and the team will have to play the rest of the game with one player short.
